Default Pressure Plate Install -Lots of Pix and Videos!

Remove Stock Clutch Cover

VIDEO!!! Stock clutch in action. =]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5zU3fFH9rk

Remove Stock Springs

Pull push rod and stock pressure plate away from clutch housing.

Remove stock pressure plate, it will pull off with some force and separate with the bearing/ push pin attached to the stock pressure plate.

^^^***Notice the o-ring inside the stock push pin. The STM replacement push pin did not have an o-ring, at any rate I did not use one when installing the STM replacement.***

^^^***Notice Notch***

This notch must be lined up with the mark on the pressure plate when installing the new one.

^^^***Notice the small dot on the most bottom fin of the pressure plate.***

Spring compare picture, stock is left and right is the new stainless steel spring.

Same thing with the bolts…

I installed all the springs and caps just to hold the plate in place and then I tighten them all up in a star pattern all the way down adding a snug turn at the end. DO NOT OVER TIGHT!!!

Ready to go!

VIDEO!!! =]

Definitely looks sharp! The red even matches nicely.

Thanks guys, I do appreciate hearing that.

This is my first Ducati and even though I have work on my Honda 600RR a ton, this is a whole another beast. Ducati dry clutch has been the same now for years but it’s all new to me. Figured I would try to help some others in the same boat as me.

So if anyone has any questions, feel free to post of PM.

Thanks Again.

FYI guys... I did some polling and when installing the new clutch cover you can remove the stock gasket that goes behind the stock clutch cover. It's the gasket that goes all the way around the clutch and the allen bolts go through it to secure the clutch cover. It was used as a sound insulator and if you are using an open cover it doesn't do anything that I know of.

It can be seen in the picture below still mounted.

Black gasket around the outside.

I am planning on removing mine (I think) for a cleaner look as I really don't think it serves any purpose with my current setup.

Personal choice from what I can tell.

Jason,

Thanks for the great write up. I pick mine up tomorrow and I have my parts on order; probably spending next weekend in the garage... Anyway, I've been searching through the posts but can't find the torque numbers for the bolts. Does anyone know that number or is it even important?

Thanks,
Lenny

You don't need to torque anything. Just screw the bolts all the way down till they stop (hand tight) on the springs in a star pattern and then give them a snug turn each. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THEM or they will snap!

Go ride for a bit and when you get back, just make sure they are all still tight.

Jason

ps. Make sure ya take and post pix when you are done!
